Grade II listed — National Heritage List for England, entry 1143378, first listed 1972.
Halfway up cobbled Fore Street, behind a black-and-gold frontage festooned with hanging baskets, stands a mid-nineteenth-century, three-storey stucco building with a slate roof and sash windows — Grade II listed, and home to The Union Inn.
Inside it is a small, congenial town-centre local on two carpeted levels: beamed ceilings, wood panelling, and an open fire when winter draws in. Old photographs of the nearby harbour hang on the walls, a nod to the pub's past connections with the Union Castle shipping line.
Dogs are welcome, families too. This is what a proper pub feels like.
Proper old school pub, we loved it!
